Robert Hollingworth conductor
Felix Mendelssohn Vom Himmel hoch
Felix Mendelssohn Christus
Fanny Hensel Lobgesang
Mince Pies with the Mendelssohns
A comfortable nineteenth-century concert hall bedecked for Christmas: Felix Mendelssohn and sister Fanny are premiering new compositions. Christus was the start of an unfinished oratorio; Vom Himmel hoch uses Luther’s Advent tune as Bach had done 100 years before, while Fanny’s Lobgesang (‘Hymn of Praise’) also looks back to Bach. Get into the festive spirit and enjoy ‘familiar’ music that you may not have heard before, as well as other seasonal musical fare.
