Frances-Marie Uitti  cello
Loré Lixenberg  voice
Catherine Laws  piano

A unique chance to hear the extraordinary music of Giacinto Scelsi performed by Frances-Marie Uitti, a pioneering cellist and composer who worked closely with Scelsi. Uitti is currently collaborating with York-based musicians Catherine Laws and Loré Lixenberg. The programme includes Scelsi’s cello pieces Voyages, ‘Ygghur’ from Trilogy and ‘Ave Maria’ from Three Latin Prayers, alongside a selection of vocal pieces from the Canti del Capricorno and Aitsi for amplified piano.

Scelsi could be described as the archetypal aristocratic eccentric whose music remained largely obscure during his lifetime primarily due to his aversion to interviews, analytical discourse and a general reluctance to seek public performance. But, steeped in mysticism and a unique compositional methodology, his music has perhaps found more resonance with contemporary audiences today.
