Founded by the internationally acclaimed oboist Nicholas Daniel and his co-principals and colleagues from the award-winning Britten Sinfonia, the Britten Oboe Quartet is renowned for their warm, expressive and delightful performances, shaped by the musicians’ experience of playing together over many years. The group’s imaginative programming embraces music not only for the oboe quartet but for various other chamber music combinations too and explores popular repertoire alongside lesser-known works.

The programme opens with a short, lyrical piece by Scottish composer Thea Musgrave and an arrangement of one of Schubert’s finest early string quartets. Featuring traditional dance melodies from the Faroe Islands in Denmark, the Bridal Trilogy takes the listener on a journey across the full spectrum of emotions experienced within marriage. These lyrical and heartfelt pieces are followed by Mozart’s charming Flute Quartet K. 171 and the poignantly beautiful aria ‘Aus Liebe’ from St Matthew Passion.
