Following her debut at the BBC Proms this summer, we are thrilled to welcome back Clare Hammond to York for our 2024/25 Season. Celebrated for her ‘brilliantly imaginative concert programmes’ (BBC Music Magazine), the award-winning British pianist opens her recital with a selection of Études by the French composer and pianist Hélène de Montgeroult. Despite being eight years Mozart’s junior, Montgeroult composed in a Romantic style well ahead of her time and has been described as ‘the missing link between Mozart and Chopin.’ Alongside captivating short pieces by Cécile Chaminade – the first female composer to be awarded the Légion d'Honneur – and contemporary American composer Jeffrey Mumford, the programme also features a selection of audience favourites, including Beethoven’s much-loved ‘Moonlight’ Sonata and Chopin’s Études, op. 25.

‘A pianist of extraordinary gifts’ (Gramophone Magazine)

‘Hammond keeps us enthralled to the last bar’ (The Telegraph)
