The Garden of Earthly Delights: Trevor Wishart at 75

This year's York New Music Weekend centres on the work of celebrated York composer Trevor Wishart, including the UK premiere of The Garden of Earthly Delights, an hour-long 'comic opera' in 8-channel surround sound. Loré Lixenberg's vocals weave a labyrinthine thread through this exploration of the human predicament and across the weekend, as we host her FR/UK:U series of French and UK new works and discussions, with Lixenberg and Wishart alongside composers Denis Dufour and Frédéric Acquaviva. Alongside music from across Wishart's career, including rarely heard tape pieces, there will be new works inspired by his music in events featuring The Assembled and The Chimera Ensemble, as well as workshops on sound walks and vocal improvisation and a new exhibition of archive materials on display as part of the StreetLife Project on Coney Street in York.
