Shakespeare in Love

No writer has inspired more music. Shakespeare's lyric poetry has been explored by countless composers and this programme explores some of the most memorable settings of all, some familiar, some rare. From the simple beauty of Elizabethan airs to the 'rich and strange' music of Tippett, 'touches of sweet harmony' here evoke the worlds of Shakespeare's clowns, kings, fairies, servants and lovers.

Song Day 2022

Our 2022 Song Day programmes are devised by pianist and festival director, Christopher Glynn, who is joined by four outstanding young singers in two concerts plus an afternoon masterclass with selected student singers and pianists. The first concert explores the response of composers to the world of Shakespeare in settings of texts from his plays and sonnets. Richard Strauss’s life-long love of the female voice is the focus of the evening programme with songs from his childhood through to the sublime trio from Der Rosenkavalier. All in all, a truly memorable musical day!
