Celebrated British pianist and winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society’s ‘Young Artist Award’ in 2016, Clare Hammond is renowned for her scintillating technicality and ‘brilliantly imaginative concert programmes’ (BBC Music Magazine), as highlighted by her choice of pieces for this recital. Hammond pairs Beethoven’s highly virtuosic sonata and Brahms’s much loved Six Piano Pieces with three fascinating pieces by twentieth-century composers Doreen Carwithen, William Grant Still and Nikolai Medtner, as well as Richard Birchall’s highly immersive 2015 piece Abstracts which takes inspiration from the work of British artist Christopher Le Brun.
