A member of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet and an alumna of the University, celebrated British violinist Lucy Russell divides her time between performing on period instruments and their modern counterparts. She is joined by renowned pianist and Professor of Music at Bucknell University, Sezi Seskir, with whom Russell released a CD of Beethoven’s violin sonatas on period instruments to great acclaim in 2020. Their programme takes you on a sonic journey to Vienna and Berlin, exploring the distinctive musical styles of these cities in the mid-eighteenth century. The duo combines Beethoven’s joyous ‘Spring’ Sonata and Joseph Woelfl’s three sonatas based on ideas from Haydn’s oratorio The Creation with sonatas by CPE Bach and Franz Benda.
