This programme of pieces for piano and various electronic setups combines the vulnerable human element of performance with unforgiving technology which may act as a seemingly disruptive force. Connected to this are themes around the natural physical construct of sound and how this interacts with man-made computer algorithms. Perhaps seen as a battle between nature and nurture, the programme proposes that both sides can overcome the other.
This performance contributes to both Ledger’s and Reuben’s research into the performing body. It considers the collaborated management of compositional material and how it interacts with the changing presence of a body. The research is experimental and responsive to the advancing nature of technology as well as the pandemic’s ongoing effect on collaborative and performing working environments. Their research, embodied in this programme, aims to uncover new relations between composer and performer.
