At the legendary competition in Rome between Domenico Scarlatti and George Frideric Handel, Scarlatti was judged the better harpsichord player but Handel the better organist.  Scarlatti became particularly popular in England when Thomas Roseingrave published his music; one owner was Thomas Arne, whose writing was clearly influenced by Scarlatti. This programme presents music by English supporters of Scarlatti’s music (’the sect’), with works by Handel, Arne and Roseingrave as well as Scarlatti himself. Masumi Yamamoto was a prize winner at the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges and holds a PhD from the University of York.
